What is a Medicine Person?
One who is called to serve others to heal in a sacred way with the blessing of the Creator is a Medicine Person. The indigenous ways of the Medicine People vary from tribe to tribe, nation to nation, throughout the world. A few things are always the same, however: the importance of lineage, and practicing in a sacred manner. Lineage defines the origin and validity of the practice and the healer. Every Medicine Person has been gifted his/her/their own vehicle of healing-often several (laying on of hands, herbs & oils, intuitive psychology, chanting, etc.). It is vital that divine guidance is given through the supervision of a teacher. The teacher accepts the great responsibility of working with that student for the rest of their days together- teaching the ceremonies and the traditions that allow the medicine of the person to be blessed and sacred when used. Without this, it can be used irresponsibly and can cause harm. Within this pact, each person humbles themselves to be a student for life; understanding deeply that their gifts are not their own but given by the Great Spirit to be of service in a sacred manner for all the days they walk with Mother Earth.
Her Teachers
In 1995, Deborah’s first teacher, Gene Rowe- a Cherokee Elder, ordained her a Pipe Carrier and taught her traditional Cherokee healing ways with a focus on using ceremony with addiction rehab. Gene passed over in 1997; and Deborah met her second teacher, Guldal Caba, in 1999. Deborah is privileged now to be a formal student and spiritually adopted daughter of Guldal Caba, PhD, NMD, Medicine Woman of Sacred Circle Native American Church (an extension of Oklevueha Native American Church). She ordained Deborah a Medicine Woman & named her “Eagle Cloud” in 2016 after many years of instruction and study. As a Psychologist, Naturopath, and Medicine Woman, Dr. Guldal is also a consultant in Deborah’s practice whenever needed.
